It was boredom that led him to go
to the human’s side. After eating a
          decent amount of leafy vegetables
and fruits he wanted to walk around.
A soft yawn emits from the bison’s
lips as he slowly drops his body and
stretches the front pair of legs straight.
With the faint pat on his head, he licks
the human happily.  Looking back at the
piece of paper on the wooden table, he
just blinks slowly and tries to understand
what it is. He didn’t get it at all so he makes
a noise, a confused noise. he was curious
and he wanted to know the meaning of the
          things written on it.

He chuckled as the bison’s tongue ran up his body. He internally cringed at the sight of saliva dripping off of his tunic, but he’d gotten more used to the licking sensation over the past few months. “Hey, easy with the licking, buddy. I stole this baby from that spirit library, so I don’t want it to get ruined by bison saliva.” Leaning back against the creature, he turned back to the parchment. Once again, his finger meandered all across the page, searching for that perfect––

Oh, now what? He raised an eyebrow at the bison, only to see that his head was tilted in confusion. Ooooooooh. Duh Sokka, bison can’t read. “You don’t know what this is, huh? Alright, I’ll tell ya.”

He unrolled the map completely and spread it out on the table. “Okay, this thing is called a map. Basically, it shows you how the land is laid out. This one is a map of the Earth Kingdom, which is where we are now. It takes a bit of practice to read, but once you get the hang of it, you can find out not only where you are, but also to get from Point A to Point B. It’s how I managed to get all of us out here, since well, I’m the best navigator here.” Very mature of you, Sokka. Stop bragging and keep explaining.

A calloused finger landed on the parchment and began tracing one of the roads. “Now these little lines you were staring at are the roads. And these––” he pointed to the multitude of jagged lines in the northwest corner, “––are mountains. And these open spaces that aren’t colored in––” he indicated them accordingly, “That’s the ocean. Now you see these three big circles right here? That’s Ba Sing Se, which is where we’re going. The circles are supposed to indicate the three huge walls that surround the city. Does this make any sense to you or…?”
